Solidarity and questions for US Anarchists after May Day

Since the disruptions in Pittsburgh during the G20, the Portland riots, and the coast to coast May Day smashings of 2010, anarchists in the US have proven they are a force. My beloved Glenn Beck even has to protect his wayward libertarians from us by insisting that we are communists, and that, laugh of laughs, we're working for the trade unions. The rightwing in the United States plays the curious role of recuperating a very popular anti-state sentiment, and as relatively weak as American anarchists are, they are starting to threaten this monopoly. That's the thing about non-vanguardist anarchists: when we speak and act honestly, we tend to have an influence far beyond our numbers.

Because we now have proven to ourselves that we can start shit almost whenever and wherever we want, anarchists in the US no longer need to be so desperate for a riot that they are willing to throw everything away just to get their game on. Less combative anarchists have intuited a weakness in this new direction, a potential for isolation and repression, but unfortunately for everyone they couched it in the tired old terms of a fetishization of violence. Articles like “Are we addicted to rioting” were correct in sensing a danger, but because their authors were not conscious of their own position nor empowered by the confidence that comes with rioting, they sounded the call to retreat.

A much better critique, written after the Strasbourg riots by honest to goodness Black Blockers, is “And After Having Burnt Everything?” The InvCom as well were on to something when they wrote, “the question of pacifism is serious only for those who have the ability to open fire. In this case, pacifism becomes a sign of power, since it's only in an extreme position of strength that we are freed from the need to fire.”

Información sobre lxs 5 compañerxs detenidxs en Argentina

El martes 27 de abril fueron detenidxs dos compañeras y tres compañeros anarquistas frente a la embajada de Grecia en Buenos Aires, tras realizar una accion en solidaridad con Giannis Dimitrakis (1).

En el transcurso de la acción aparecieron dos policías de civil mostrando sus armas y gritando que iban a disparar, seguido, aparecieron más efctivos de la Policía Federal, produciendose un enfrentamiento con lxs compañerxs. Resultando de esto 5 compañerxs detenidxs, unx de lxs cuales resulto heridx en la cabeza y trasladado al Hospital Fernández donde se le mantuvo toda la noche esposadxo. Por parte de la policía resultaron 3 heridos, uno con traumatismo de craneo, otro con una fractura en el brazo y otro con rotura de ligamento.

Lxs compañerxs fueron llevadxs a la Comisaría n·15 sin que el resto pudiera tener información verídica de si estaba en la 15 o en la 17. Al día siguiente fueron trsladadxs a los Tribunales de Comodoro Py para declarar ante el juez Claudio Bonadío (2) que los acusó de: “daños agravados”, “lesiones”, “resistencia a la autoridad” y también le aplicó el delito de “prepotencia ideológica”, cara oculta de la Ley Antiterrorista.

Asheville May Day arrestees need your help!

Eleven people were arrested here yesterday evening, including folks from Milwaukee, Carrboro, Raleigh, Asheville, and OKC. Ten people have $10,000 bail and seven counts of misdemeanor damage to personal property, three counts of misdemeanor damage to real property; one person has $11,000 bail and an extra charge. One person has been bailed out by their family so far.
Everyone will be arraigned tomorrow at 8:30am, so we'll know more then. Their charges and bail may change, and we may be able to get folks out then. We haven't heard much from the people inside, so we aren't sure who wants to be bailed out right now. We'll update y'all once we have more information.

As you can probably tell, we could use cash money. We're working on getting a paypal set up, but if you'd like to wire us money or send us checks, email howdotheywork@gmail.com.

Contralinea reports that David Venegas and Noe Bautista from VOCAL have made it to safety in Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca. They say they were with missing Contralinea reporters Erika Ramirez and David Cilia.

Venegas and Bautista have a video of Ramirez and Cilia that proves the journalists are alive. Ramirez is unhurt but dehydrated. Cilia has a bullet in his thigh and another bullet grazed his waist, but Venegas and Bautista say that neither are in danger of dying as long as they are rescued soon.

Venegas, Bautista, Ramirez, and Cilia had been missing since the April 27 paramilitary attack on an aid caravan that was headed for the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala in Oaxaca.

Cilia’s father David is en route to the conflict zone. He has stated that he will search for his missing son, regardless of the risk it entails.

Still missing are two Triqui women from San Juan Copala, whom paramilitaries kidnapped just prior to the attack on the caravan. The UBISORT paramilitaries, whom are allied with the ruling party in Oaxaca, released a third woman who notified the autonomous municipality of the kidnapping. UBISORT is demanding a ransom for the missing women.

Paramilitary attack leaves 2 deaths, 15 injuries, and 3 comrades from the Libertarian group VOCAL have 'disappeared' in Oaxaca Mexico. Yesterday the realization of this caravan to the Triqui region, inside of our state of Oaxaca, was announced to the media. In this caravan there are comrades from the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO), Section 22 of the teachers' union, Oaxacan Voices Constructing Autonomy and Freedom (VOCAL), CACTUS, members of MULTI (Independent Triqui Movement of Unification and Struggle), as well as international observer comrades.

As was already announced, the caravan left today, April 27, 2010, at approximately 11 AM from the city of Huajuapan de Leon, Oaxaca, with the goal of breaking the siege that the Autonomous Triqui Community finds itself in as a result of state and paramilitary repression against the process of autonomy which it is building inside this community. Violent paramilitary attacks have occurred at different moments during the autonomous process of San Juan Copala and have been directed by the paramilitary organization called UBISORT (Union for Social Well-Being in the Triqui Region) which in reality is presided over by Rufino Juárez Hernández and the MULT (Triqui Movement of Unification and Struggle Movement.)

Before the departure of the caravan, the autonomous president of San Juan Copala, Jesús Martínez Flores, placed responsibility for any attack on Evencio Nicolás Martínez, Oaxaca State Attorney General, Jorge Franco Vargas "El Chucky", State Interior Minister, and Carlos Martínez, local PRI candidate for the state congress. Antifa Stop Nazi March in Dresden

Thousands of people gathered in Dresden to block for the first time an annual neo-Nazi march commemorating the Allied bombing of the German city during World War II.

Some 6,400 neo-Nazis gathered outside the Neustadt railway station to mark the anniversary of the devastating bombing raids, and were to have staged a "funeral march" after listening to a series of speeches, but around 12,000 counter-protestors blocked the rally.

"We have for the first time succeeded in preventing the biggest neo-Nazi march in Europe," said Lena Roth of the "Dresden without Nazis" alliance of politicians, artists and unionists.

Police, who deployed nearly 5,700 men, said late Saturday that clashes broke out on several occasions resulting in "at least 27 injured, including 15 policemen" as stones and bottles were thrown.

February 15 will mark two months since our friend and comrade Tamara was abducted by the state.

Currently, Brians I prison administration has ordered the limitation of her visitation rights and phone calls.Her mail is being monitored, and they only give it to her when they feel like it.

An appeal for her provisional liberty has been denied.Right now, we are awaiting new motions by her defense, which could lead to changes in the judicial process.

We know that information about her case has been hard to come by, but prison and the law know nothing of life, of time.

The march intending to block the highway leading to Whistler, where the games are being held, was stopped but not before releasing its rage on the city center.

On Saturday, Sept. 4, five* political activists were arrested in Belgrade on trumped up charges. The five, Tadej Kurepa, Ivan Vulović, Sanja Dojkić, Ratibor Trivunac and Nikola Mitrovic, are activists in or associates of the Anarcho-Syndicalist Initiative, the Serbian section of the International Workers’ Association (IWA). (* The sixth person sought by police, Ivan Savic, was also arrested some days later.)

The arrests are allegedly related to a direct action which took place at the Greek Embassy on Aug. 25. Negligible damage was done; a crack in one window, a tiny burn mark on the facade and a circled A graffiti on the embassy as a act of symbolic solidarity with Thodoros Iliopoulos. are to be tried for international terrorism. They 6 have now been charged with "International Terrorism" and face 15 years in prison. In the near future, this means they will remain incommunicado in jail for at least several months.

They are accused of being the authors of graffiti painted on the Greek embassy last 25th August, and of having thrown a petrol bomb which only damaged a window. The fact that the comrades deny that they had anything to do with these events clearly does not worry the Serbian State in its obsession to find someone guilty. Indeed, from Paris to Belgrade, the international police are all very much alike… They must have had the same instructors…

In the early morning of Tuesday, February 2nd, a cell in solidarity with the call for Anti Prison Agitation, moved into the streets to set fire to dumpsters along Insurgenetes Avenue of the Federal District [a major thoroughfare of Mexico City], to show our anger and rage against the centers of annihilation called prisons, and to call for their destruction. The action caused minor chaos with the traffic stopped for a few minutes until the Police came, and because of our great anger we responded to them causing injuries to our enemies, which caused one of them to open fire to disperse us. Mexico: "the insurrectionist counter attack"

After years of repression in Mexico, 2010 seems like it is set to become the year of the counter offensive. Bombings and arson have taken place across central Mexico by anarchist groups.

A new year's day communique from an anarchist group in Tijuana claimed responsibility for the machine gunning of police cars, the stick ups of various OXXO stores (a 7/11 type chain) as well as the killing of a police officer who attempted to intervene in a stickup. There has also apparently been a reemergence of the Marxist-Leninist and indigenous armed struggle groups mainly in the poorer states of Mexico. What more will 2010 bring?

A translation of the New Years Communique from Tijuana:

Black Christmas: We unleashed all of our rage in these dates of consumerism and Christianity in Direct Solidarity with all of our comrades kidnapped by the Mexican State in the entire world.

Comrades: During the first hours of this new year, we machine gunned three police vehicles of the Tijuana Municipal Police as well as one private police car, in different parts of the city. During the attack there were no "victims reported", our intention was not to kill the cops but to demonstrate that we are still active and in solidarity with our comrades.

We did this as a gesture of solidarity with the international hunger strike of anarchist prisoners called for by Gabriel Pombo Da Silva... from the 20th of December until January 1st, as well our attack is in solidarity with our comrades Abrahán López, Fermín Gómez, Emmanuel Hernández Hernández y Víctor Herrera Govea [currently in jail in Mexico for alleged bombings and attacks attributed to anarchist, earth and animal liberation cells].

We will also continue our expropriations from OXXO stores. This capitalist business took part in accusations against our comrade Víctor Herrera. Including yesterday we have carried out seven successful expropriations. We have ended the year well, which permits us to have the necessary means to continue attacking the State and capital. Unfortunately during one expropriation a cop who attempted to defend the interests of the State and capital died. It was him or us. Sadly, two robbers, without ideological motives, were captured during a hold up at one of the branches of the same business, the police are trying to blame them for our actions. During the last year, riots and arsons have spread through urban areas in Sweden. Youth in poorer communities have started fires and attacked firefighters and cops on arrival. The unrest is clearly linked to a discontent with the situation they face; the segregated cities, the poor living conditions in their areas, the discrimination they face in mainstream society. Wherever they go they carry their areas? reputation with them.
But the answer politicians come up with is always the same ? heavy policing and maybe, maybe some social programs to keep youth busy and off the streets.
In Fittja, an underprivileged community in the outskirts of Stockholm, unrest and riots broke out and went on for some nights after a police intervention at a youth center on Sunday 25th October.

The Tuesday after, one person was arrested and the following day riot police raided the apartment the person shares with others in Fittja, arresting another nine people. The following weekend they were all detained, charged with preparing an arson and one also for rioting.
Police and media from the beginning claimed that the arrested were ?known members of Antifascist Action? who had traveled to Fittja after the unrest begun. The ten are described as ?criminal adults? and ?troublemakers from the outside? and depicted as the ones responsible for the riots and the damages in the area.
Repeatedly parallels are drawn to the riots in Rosengård in Malmö last winter, following the eviction of a center run by various neighborhood initiatives. Some people came there to get help with their homework, others came there to pray. Now, the company owning the building said the center was to be replaced with a school to teach the residents how to live in an apartment(!). For a while, the center was squated by youth from the area. When they got evicted, anger and frustration mounted. Activists living close by, joined them to show their solidarity with the evicted youth, like they had before with autonomous social centers like the Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen.
And indeed the picture drawn up by the media then shows many similarities to the one that is displayed today, the one of autonomous activists from outside the area causing unrest and destruction in an already vulnerable area.
It?s simple media logic ? a scenario with easily identifiable scape goats makes for a good story. Reality doesn?t have much to do with it, it?s more of a backdrop to the story. However, the people behind the headlines are real and they need our support.
The 22. december the remaining two of Fittja10 were sentenced, one to five months and
a fine of 1000 sek, the other one to four months in prison. One of them
has been incarcerated since her arrest in October and will most likely
have to stay in jail until the beginning of her prison sentence.
(The incarcerated individual appealed the sentence and has already been released as of this posting!)

Una intervención policial en un centro de jóvenes en Fittja, a las afueras de Estocolmo acabó en tres noches de conflictos. Ahora diez personas se encuentran detenidas, acusadas de preparar un incendio y uno de ellas también de disturbios.

Durante el año pasado, disturbios e incendios se han extendido por las zonas urbanas de Suecia. Jóvenes de barrios pobres han prendido fuego y atacado a bomberos y policías cuando estos llegan. Los conflictos tienen claramente algo que ver con una desilusión con la situación que les toca; las ciudades segregadas, las condiciones de pobreza en sus barrios, la discriminación que muestra la sociedad hacía ellos. En todas partes llevan su mala reputación encima.

On Thursday 17 of December Tamara, an anarchist comrade from Madrid, has been imprisoned in the woman's prison of Wad-Ras. She is accused of having sent an explosive package to Albert Batlle, secretary of penitentiary services of the Catalan regional government.

The action was in October, during a campaign in struggle against the penitentiary system and in solidarity with the prisoner Amadeu Casellas, who was at that time on hunger strike.

In response to the 2nd eviction of Wheeler Hall on the UC Berkeley campus an angry mob of torch-wielding students and non students made its way to School Chancellor Birgeneau's palatial mansion after a concert held in support of those arrested:

"As the protesters marched from the concert, they made makeshift barricades and obstacles (mostly from trash cans) for vehicles attempting to drive through the crowd. The march quickly turned into a small riot, taking the streets and blocking traffic. At one point a car irritated with the marchers, sped through the crowd carelessly, hitting an individual (although, no one suffered any apparent harm). As the crowd approached the entrance to campus, some lit torches. They approached the Chancellor’s residence on campus and began smashing lights, damaging windows, and breaking pots."

8 people were arrested in the aftermath of this action, all are being charged with serious crimes including attempted arson.

California's governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger stated "California will not tolerate any type of terrorism against any leaders including educators...The attack on Chancellor Birgeneau's home is a criminal act and those who participated will be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law,"

A communique entitled "Torchlit Evening with Birgeneau" was released shortly after the action.

Breaking News! Raids in Santiago, Chile Target Anarchists

At 6am today, Friday the 11th of December, an intense police operation began headed by the 'Bombing Investigation' Division with squatted social centers and private homes raided throughout the metropolitan region... Until now six spaces have been raided: 3 squatted buildings and 3 private residences, in the areas of Central Santiago, Macul, Renca, El Bosque and Recoleta. Corporate media reports that there are 12 people who are being detained, 8 of whom have been interrogated.

The raids were carried out by armed contingents of the PDI (Investigative Police Bureau) and the Carabineros (The National Police force). At the Sacco and Vanzetti Squatted Social Center and Library, located in central Santiago, 4 comrades have been detained and are being held incommunicado by the BIPE (special department of the investigative police). It appears that the Social Center was defended due to reports of the remains of many broken bottles scattering the streets in front of the building. Well known squats La Crota and La Idea and El Hogar were also raided by strong contingents of armed police. It is reported that the police took computer equipment, bikes, propaganda, and cell phones from all of the squats.

URGENTE! Allanamientos y detenciones en Santiago, $hile
A partir de las 6:00 de la mañana paralelamente carabineros y policía de investigaciones realizaron allanamientos a 4 Okupaciones y 2 viviendas particulares en Santiago. Los allanamientos se enmarcan dentro de la investigación del “Caso Bombazos”. Los allanmientos que comenzaron a las 6:00 de la mañana terminaron a eso del medio dia.

El Centro Social Okupado y Biblioteca Sacco y Vanzetti, ubicada en el centro de la capital, fue allanado por el equipo militarizado de la Policía de Investigaciones (armados con ametralladoras, escopetas y armas cortas), ante lo que lxs compañerxs de el CSO Sacco y Vanzetti dieron la pelea y se enfrentaron a los verdugos, lxs cuatro compañerxs fueron finalmente detenidxs y trasladadxs a la BIPE (Brigada de Investigaciones Policiales Especiales) por agredir a funcionarios. Desde esta casa fue incautado desde material de lectura, propaganda, bicicletas, telefonos moviles, pendrives, discos duros, etc…

Al mismo tiempo también fue allanada La Okupa La Idea, en el centro de la capital, siendo esta la 3º vez, a manos de carabineros con el GOPE (Grupo de Operaciones Policiales Especiales), Fuerzas Especiales y Labocar (Departamento de Criminalística), fuertemente armados. De La Idea se llevaron variedad de material como pendrives, discos duros, bicicletas, propaganda, etc… No se sabe de ningun detenidx en esta casa…

También en el centro de Santiago fue allanada La Okupa La Crota que también consta de una biblioteca llamada Centro de Documentación Anarkista Itinerante. Al lugar ingresaron funcionarios de carabineros (GOPE, Labocar, Fuerzas Especiales y agentes de civil) fuertemente armados con ametralladoras y armas cortas, lxs compañerxs que se encontraban defendieron el espacio y a ellxs mismxs, resultando 5 compañerxs detenidxs por maltrato a carabineros y trasladadxs a la 33 comisaria de Ñuñoa. Del lugar carabineros se llevo una gran cantidad de bicicletas, CD`s, pendrives, documentos de investigación, propaganda, discos duros, telefonos moviles, ect…

El cuarto allanamiento fue en La Okupa El Hogar, ubicada en la comuna del Bosque, el cual fue realizado por efectivos del carabineros (GOPE, Labocar, Fuerzas Especiales y agentes de civil) y de donde se llevaron diverso material, al igual como en las otras casas.

We Are the Crisis: Occupations spread like wildfire throughout California

The past week saw occupations at at least 5 University of California campuses. The occupations occurred in reaction to the states decision to increase the cost of a UC education 32%. In New York City students and assorted locals held a solidarity action that resulted in two arrests.

High points of last weeks actions:
UCLA saw large confrontations between riot police and students who tried to storm the building where the state regents were meeting to confirm the 32% hike.

Students at UC Berkeley finally pulled off an occupation of Kerr Hall (aftter having been stopped twice by Student Organizers)

UC Santa Cruz Occupied again, this time taking two buildings and holding them for days. The Chancellors conference room was trashed.

Low points:
Self appointed student leaders repeatedly showed their role as recuperators of struggle, in Berkeley they stopped people from rushing an administration building and an anarchist was arrested after purportedly being pointed out by a student organizer. In UCLA an occupation was opposed by the manipulations of student organizers. Also in UCLA student organizers were seen reinforcing police lines in futile attempts to stop furious students from surrounding the California Regents meeting.

No dia 1º de outubro, às 6 da manhã, o Joint Terrorism Task Force (um sindicato de departamentos policias locais e o FBI), chutou as portas de nossa casa – uma casa coletiva anarquista no Queens, Nova Iorque, afetuosamente conhecida como Tortuga. Os primeiros desastres da batida foram rapidamente seguidos por mais brutalidade, na medida em que a polícia sujeitava três pessoas que estavam dormindo, destruindo as portas do quartos que estavam destrancados.

Outras três pessoas (que acordaram com desagradáveis barulhos de passos, madeiras quebrando, e vozes gritantes) aguardaram no porão – mas as armas apontadas e as luzes ofuscantes chegaram rápido.

Nós colocamos nossas mãos aonde eles pudessem vê-las. Eles mandaram a gente sair da cama. Eles não deixaram a gente se vestir, mas colocaram roupas ao acaso em algumas pessoas. Nós fomos algemados, e embora no início os grupos do andar de cima e do andar debaixo terem sido propositalmente separados, logo estávamos todos juntos, sentados na sala de estar, posicionados como bonecas sobre os sofás e as cadeiras. Ficamos algemados por muitas horas, e estávamos desamparados como nosso pequeno pássaro, um fringilidae que resgatamos e estávamos reabilitando, e que voou pela porta aberta para uma morte certa, após sua gaiola ter sido golpeada pelos policiais no seu zelo em abrir as portas do quartos do andar de cima pela força. Nós gritamos para eles, mas eles continuaram com a brutalidade.

Eles nos mantiveram e nos vigiaram por horas e horas e horas. 16 horas para ser preciso, 16 horas com o NYPD e o FBI perambulando pela nossa casa, confiscando nossas vidas em uma “expedição de pescaria” relacionada aos protestos do G20 de 24 e 25 de setembro, em Pittsburgh. Três de nós permaneceu para assistir a equipe de substâncias perigosas entrar na casa para investigar um jogo de química de criança, vê-la vasculhar a garagem sob uma autorização adicional, assinalar todas as coisas que confiscavam como “evidência” – curiosos brinquedos de pelúcia do George, trabalhos artísticos, correspondência com o prisioneiro político Daniel McGowan, certificados de nascimento, passaportes, o arquivo de vídeo inteiro de um coletivo de mídia local, registros de taxas, livros, computadores, aparelhos de armazenamento, telefones celulares, DVDs da Buffy a Caça Vampiros, bandeiras, faixas, cartazes, fotografias e mais coisas do que foram relatadas aqui.

O ímpeto aparente desta batida apareceu cerca de uma semana atrás, quando dois membros de nosso lar foram presos, uma vez mais sob a mira de uma arma, nos subúrbios de Pittsburgh. Eles são acusados de serem os cabeças que, “dirigindo” as alegres manifestações contra o G-20, usaram tecnologias tais como o Twitter para “impedir a apreensão” do/as manifestantes. Os dois foram presos sob fiança, um tendo que pagar uma soma absurda de 30.000 dólares, e soltos 36 horas depois, após a fiança ter sido paga. A partir daí, nenhuma acusação adicional foi imposta contra os dois, nem contra qualquer outro morador após a batida.

Como anarquistas, não temos nenhuma ilusão do que o Estado é capaz de fazer. Nós não somos os primeiros anarquistas a ter a casa atacada, e infelizmente enquanto o Estado existir, nós não seremos os últimos. Nós somos, juntamente a outros indivíduos tarjados como David Japenga, as saídas para a raiva impotente que as autoridades sentem quando perdem o controle, assim como eles fizeram durante o G-20 em Pittsburgh. Nós, aquele maravilhoso nós, que inclui o Tortuga House e todos que mantêm afinidades conosco, recusamos as formas rígidas que as autoridades aprisionam um mundo explodindo com possibilidades infinitas – ele não é um líder, ela não agiu sozinha, eles não estão sendo dirigidos. A repressão é uma estratégia que o Estado usa para nos colocar na defensiva, para desviar nossas energias de ser uma força pro-ativa e ao invés disso lidar com as coisas que isto provocou. Nós não iremos mentir e dizer que isso não nos deixou enrolados, mas na medida em que nosso tempo e vertigem passam, tomamos conhecimento que amigos nos cercam. Nossa determinação é fortalecida por esta solidariedade, e nós não iremos ser detidos por esta agressão do Estado.

Desejamos agradecer todos o/as nosso/as amigo/as e companheiro/as que nos apoiaram nestes dias difíceis. Na manhã seguinte (2 de outubro) nosso advogado arquivou uma injunção sobre a batida que foi inesperadamente concedida – ela proíbe as autoridades de pesquisar nossos pertences até a gente voltar ao Tribunal no dia 16. Nas semanas e meses a vir nós faremos o melhor para compartilhar os desenvolvimentos processuais na medida em que eles forem ocorrendo. El 10 de Octubre de 2009, a las 6 de la manana, el Joint Terrorism Task
Force (Fuerza Conjunta Contra el Terrorismo) la union del departamento de
policia y el FBI, patearon la puerta de nuestra casa colectiva en Queens a
la que afectivamente se le conoce como casa Tortuga. Los primeros embates
contra la puerta fueron seguidos por mas en la planta alta de la casa,
mientras la policia irrumpia en las habitaciones de 3 personas que se
encontraban dormidas, rompiendo puertas que estaban sin cerraduras.

Tres personas mas fueron despertadas por el estruendo de las puertas
destruidas, los pasos que se acercaban amenazantes y los gritos de la
policia mientras aguardaban en el sotano por su turno. Les apuntaron con
armas y luces brillantes segaban sus ojos.

Pusimos nuetras manos en donde pudieran verlas, nos ordenaron que
salieramos de la cama, de nuestras habitaciones, no nos dejaban vestirnos,
a algunos nos pusieron un surtido arbitrario de ropas que no eran
nuestras.

Nos esposaron, los grupos de la planta alta y del sotano permanecieron
separados por un rato pero al final nos concentraron a todxs en la sala,
posicionandonos como munecxs en las sillas y sofas de nuestra casa.
Permanecimos esposadxs por algunas horas, sin poder hacer nada, mientras
nuestro pequeno pajaro, un finch que estabamos rehabilitando salia volando
por la puerta de la casa, despues de que su jaula habia sido danada por la
policia cuando destruian una de las puertas de las habitaciones. Les
gritamos pero solo sde quedaron parados y mirando sin hacer nada.

Estuvieron vigilandonos por horas y horas, 16 para ser exactxs, 16 horas
en las que el FBI y la policia del Estado de Nueva York se paseaban por
nuestra casa confiscando nuestras vidas y pescado "evidencia" relevante a
las protestas contra el G20 que sucedieron el 24 y 25 de Septiembre.
Cuando finalmente pudimos leer la orden de allanamiento, se mencionaba en
ella la violacion de leyes federales contra disturbios, la cual era lo
suficientemente vaga para permitir el allanamiento de la casa entera. Los
agentes nos repetian constantemenete que no estabamos bajo arresto y que
teniamos libertad para salir de la casa. Pero esa libertad significaba
estar vigiladxs por el FBI cada vez que usabamos el bano, no podiamos
hacer llamadas telefonicas u observarles mientras saqueaban nuestras
habitaciones. Estar en libertad significaba que se llevaron a dos de
nosotrxs con pretextos de multas caducas. Y aunque esta es nuestra casa,
si saliamos no podiamos volver hasta que el allanamiento hubiera sido
completado.

Tres de nosotrxs nos quedamos hasta el amargo final, tres de nosotrxs
vimos como el equipo de materiales peligrosos entraba para investigar un
juego de quimica para ninos y para seguir viendo como allanaban la cochera
con una orden de cateo adicional que obtuvieron el mismo dia, nos quedamos
para firmar boletas que enumeraban nuestras pertenenecias que confiscaron
como "evidencia" —munecos de peluche, arte, correspondencia con presos
politicos, actas de nacimiento, pasaportes, el archivo entero de un
colectivo de videoastas local, declaraciones de impuestros, libros,
computadoras, discos duros externos, telefonos celulares, DVD's,
pancartas, banderas, posters, fotografias y muchas cosas mas.

El impetu aparente para este allanamiento aparecio la semana anterior a
este, cuando dos personas de nuestra casa fueron arrestadas, una vez mas a
punta de pistola, en los suburbios de Pittsburgh. Estan siendo acusados de
ser los autores intelectuales y de "dirigir" a los manifestantes contra el
G20, utilizando tecnologia como Twitter para...de los manifestantes. Ambos
estuvieron bajo arresto y con derecho a fianza, la de uno de ellos asiende
a la ridicula cantidad de $30, 000 dolares en efectivo y fue liberado 36
horas despues de que su fianza fue pagada. Hasta este momento no hay mas
cargos que se les imputen a ambos, ni a ninguna de las personas de la
casa.

Como anarquistas que somos no tenemos ninguna ilusion acerca de lo que el
estado es capaz de hacer. No somos lxs primeros anarquistas en tener un
allanamiento de esta naturaleza y desafortunadamente mientras el estado
siga existiendo no seremos lxs ultimxs. Nosotrxs somos, junto con otros
individuos como David Japenga los chivos expiatorios de la rabia que

Juat as the week of September 24th brought a series of actions the beginning of October showed an international wave of repression against anarchists.

In Mexico Ramses Villareal was arrested by authorities, charged with being involved with a wave of bank bombings in Mexico City. In Greece the well known insurrectionist author Alfredo Bonanno was arrested with another man in connection with a bank robbery. The same day an anarchist collective house in New York City was raided by the Join Terrorism Task Force in an apparent revenge for the wild day of rioting that took place in Pittsburgh during the G20 meetings there.

On September 25th, in New York City a group of about 60 people congregated in Union Square in an unpermitted march in solidarity with G20 rioters and student occupiers in California.

The crowd marched and chanted with some bystanders joining spontaneously, when the crowd marched near NYU, students cheered and joined the march for a few blocks.

On Thursday, September 24th, actions against the budget cuts, fee hikes, layoffs and furloughs at University of California campuses took place throughout the UC system.

On September 24th, students at UC Santa Cruz began the occupation of the Graduate Student Commons as part of a day of action at all UCs across the state. The building is located in a central location on campus, across from the Bay Tree Bookstore. The occupation is continuing into the weekend.

On the same day, the UC Berkeley campus started with picket lines and teach-outs happening around campus, with a mass rally and march and a general assembly in the evening to plan the next steps forward.

The Berkeley protest was one of many held across California in an unprecedented day of action directed at university authorities and state governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Faculty, students and unions from the University of California's 10 campuses including its two most prestigious, UCLA and Berkeley, joined forces in what was the biggest student protest for more than a generation.

Acciones contra el recorte presupuestal, el aumento de cuotas y los despidos injustificados en las universidades de California tomaron lugar en distintos campus universitario este jueves 24 de septiembre.

El 24 de septiembre, estudiantes de la Universidad de Santa Cruz comenzaron una ocupación en el Centro de Estudiantes de Posgrado como parte del día de acción en todas las universidades de California. El edificio se encuentra en el centro del campus universitario. La ocupación continua durante el fin de semana.

En el mismo día, en el campus universitario de Berkeley hubieron manifestaciones y clases al aire libre con una marcha masiva y una asamblea general.

La protesta de Berkeley fué una de muchas que se dieron lugar a lo largo y ancho del estado de California en un día de acción sin precedentes dirijida contra las autoridades universitarias y el gobernador del estado, Arnold Schwarzenegger que lo único que ha hecho es profundizar aún más la crisis económica que vive el estado. G20 in Pittsburgh, The City was on Fire!!

Heads of State of 20 of the most powerful governments in the world, representing 19 countries and the European Union, met in Pittsburgh, PA on September 24th and 25th.

Our comrades were prepared to demonstrate against the capitalist policies of the G20. The demonstrations started on Thursday afternoon, lasted until 4 am and continued on Friday. Blockades, marches and intense rioting were present all over the city, especially in the downtown area of Oakland.

A protest march starting at 2:30pm made its way towards the downtown area where clashes broke out between riot police and rock throwing demonstrators.

Later another march leaving from friendship park in the Bloomfield neighborhood ended in clashes with police and windows broken at a Boston Market, and a bank. Rioters dressed in all black and wearing bandanas weaved their way through Pittsburgh screaming, “We’re here we're queer, we're anarchists we'll fuck you up!." Pittsburgh residents were cheering and raising their fists as the crowd marched by. Many other people, joined the march.

Some of the protesters used bricks and hammers to bash in windows to McDonald’s, Kinko’s, The Pitt Shop, Rite Aid, American Apparel, Quiznos, iHop, a recruiting station, and a police sub station among others. They also lit dumpsters on fire.
The group eventually joined the people protesting in Schenley Plaza and around the Cathedral of Learning just in time to hear the police declare the event an “unlawful assembly,” over a loud speaker system.

Police threw dozens of canisters of gas and used for the first time in the US, LRAD cannons to disperse the crowds. Despite the attempts of the police to re-establish "order", the chaos that wrapped the city for several hours was uncontrollable. Decentralized actions, black blocks, student marches and crowds of angry neighbors paralyzed Pittsburgh for two days.

El G20 en Pittsburgh, La ciudad ardió!

Jefes de Estado de los 20 gobiernos más poderosos del mundo, representanto a 19 países y la Unión Europea, se reunieron en Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania el 24 y 25 de septiembre.

Nuestrxs camaradas se prepararon para manifestarse contra las políticas capitalistas del grupo de los 20. Las manifestaciones comenzaron la tarde del jueves y duraron hasta las 4 de la mañana y continuaron el viernes duante todo el día. Bloqueos, marchas y disturbios intensos se manifestaron por toda la ciudad, especialmente en el centro del barrio de Oakland.

Una marcha salió a las 2:30 pm y se encaminó hacia el cenro de la ciudad, donde manifestantes que tiraban piedras se enfrentaron con la policía.

Más tarde otra marcha salió del Parque de la Amistad en el distrito de Bloomfield, y terminó en enfrentamientos con la policía y vidrios rotos en el Boston Market (restaurante de comida rápida) y en un banco. Los que se amotinaban vestían completamente de negro y tenían sus rostros cubiertos, zigzagueando por las calles de Pittsburgh y gritando "Estamos aquí, somos queer, somos anarquistas y los vamos a joder!" Residentes de Pittsburgh gritaban y aplaudían en apoyo a lxs manifestantes mientras alzaban sus puños al aire. Hubo personas que se unieron espontaneamente a la marcha.

Algunxs de lxs manifestantes usaron ladrillos y martillos para romper las ventanas de establecimientos de comida rápida y cadenas comerciales como: McDonald’s, Kinko’s, The Pitt Shop, Rite Aid, American Apparel, Quiznos, iHop, una estación de reclutamiento y una estación de policía entre otros. También prendieron fuego a basureros a lo largo del camino.
Éste mismo grupo, se unió más tarde a otro grupo que protestaba en Schenley Plaza y en los alrededores de la Catedral de la Enseñanza, justo a tiempo para escuchar la advertencia de la policía que declaraba el evento como ”asamblea ilegal”.

La policia arrojó decenas de cartuchos de gas y utilizó por primera vez en Estados Unidos un cañón de Acústica de Largo Alcance para tratar de dispersar a la gente. A pesar de los intentos de la policía por reestablecer el "orden", el caos que envolvió a la ciudad por bastantes horas era incontrolable.
Acciones descentralizadas, bloques negros, marchas estudiantiles y grupos de vecinos enojados paralizaron Pittsburgh durante dos días.

Recently released documents show that the ACLU is planning on doing legal observation for the upcoming G20 protests in pittsburgh. Usually at demonstrations like these legal support is provided by the National Lawyers Guild, or other groups sympathetic to 'radicals' like the Midnight Special, or People's Law Collective. The ACLU however is planning on being 'neutral' and intends to videotape and surveil the activities of protesters who break the law as well as the behavior of the police. They also state that they will testify in court about such illegal activity.

From the documents:
"Again your job is to document, as thoroughly as possible, any incidents, arrests, or misconduct (by police or protesters) that take place. Document everything the police and protesters do as thoroughly as possible." "Stay vigilant at all times. Look for signs of potential trouble such as protesters wearing masks..."
Which side are you on?

In NYC in the late 1990s the ACLU famously took on the case of KKK members who planned to protest in the city. The ACLU took the city to court over the mask law which would make it illegal for the Klan to demonstrate with their pointy white hoods. However when a similar case arose in 2000 involving anarchists who were arrested and attacked by police for wearing masks at a Mayday demonstration the ACLU refused to help. The ACLU has also been largely silent if not latently supportive of federal repression of Animal and Earth Liberationists.

A group of 'encapuchados' attack the precinct of the plainclothes investigative police (PDI) outside of the Unversidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC) campus in Santiago. Reports are coming in that at least two people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

Chilean police authorities continue to track down the estimated 50 hooded protesters who mobbed a Providencia police building Wednesday afternoon, leaving one detective injured and prompting a major university to close its doors. As of early Thursday morning, police had captured two suspects. The attack on the Homicidal Brigade of the Investigations Police (PDI) - Chile’s plainclothes detective force – was apparently launched in protest of the upcoming Sept. 11, 1973 coup anniversary that ousted President Salvador Allende. During the 10-minute attack, college-aged protestors tossed Molotov bombs, rocks and cans through the building’s windows and at police officers who tried to stop them.

Violent public outbreaks are commonplace around Sept. 11 in Chile, but protestors struck days earlier than expected this year, angered by recent clashes between police and Chile’s Mapuche population, the nation’s largest indigenous group, in Region IX.

"No more deaths will be accepted, all will be avenged," read a banner that mobbers waved, alluding to the controversial police shooting of 24-year-old Mapuche activist Jaime Mendoza Collío , who died Aug. 12 from a bullet would to the back (ST, Aug. 25 ).

Signs bore the names of Collío and anarchist Mauricio Morales Duarte, who was killed in May when a bomb he carried in his backpack exploded.

From a communique written by participants in the action:

“At the beginning of our demonstration a detective from the Homicide Brigade proceeded to attack one of our comrades, we beat him back. Because of this the rest of the detectives came out to defend him using their arms against ours. With automatic rifles, pistols, revolvers, sub machine guns and shields they tried to disperse us, but our revolutionary conviction and our rage, which make us realize that we are fighting for our people and in memory of those who have fallen in the struggle, was stronger than their weapons.
… The PDI has characterized itself by its oppressive character as we have seen in Wall Mapu, where together with Carabineros and the army they have militarized the zone and developed a counterinsurgency to destroy the Mapuche struggle…

With rocks, Molotov cocktails, and paint bombs we confronted the bullets of the PDI, and forced them to stay locked up inside of their station…”

Un grupo de alrededor de 50 encapuchadxs, a eso de las 13:30hrs, salieron en las inmediaciones de la UAHC a cortar la calle prendiendo barricadas.

Todo estaba como suele suceder, hasta que un agente de la PDI quizo dárselas de héroe intentando detener a un compa, ante lo cual lxs manifestantes respondieron inmediatamente rescatando al compa y el agente fue golpeado. Cuando se rescataba al compa y se golpeaba al agente, otros agentes salieron en defensa de su compañero, quien se encontraba tirado en el piso, disparando contra lxs manifestantes que por suerte no resultaron heridxs, salvo algunxs que fueron alcanzadxs por balines de goma. Es aquí cuando el cuartel de la PDI comenzo a ser atacado lanzando decenas de cócteles molotov, piedras y bombas de pintura. Producto de las bombas incendiarias el cuartel había comenzado a arder, pero fue apagado por los agentes.

El agente de la PDI agredido fue trasladado al hospital de carabineros, donde se constato que tenia lesiones en el cuerpo y que producto de un golpe con una piedra en el rostro le volaron tres dientes (jajajaja…).
También otros agentes fueron alcanzados por piedras y bombas de pintura.

En el lugar la policía encontró lienzos con mensajes alusivos al aniversario 36 del golpe de estado y en solidaridad con el Jaime Mendoza Collío y el compañero Mauricio Morales.

"Iniciada nuestra manifestación, un detective de la Brigada de Homicidios procedió a agredir a un compañero, por lo que lo repelimos a golpes. Frente a esto, el resto de los detectives salió en su defensa utilizando sus armas contra nosotros. Con escopetas de repetición, pistolas, revólveres, subametralladoras y escudos, intentaron dispersarnos, pero nuestra convicción revolucionaria y el coraje que nos da el saber que estamos luchando por nuestro pueblo y en la senda de quienes han caído en la lucha popular, fue más fuerte.

Nuestras armas eran para impedir que las fuerzas represivas acabasen con nuestra manifestación. En verdad, esperábamos que fuesen fuerzas Especiales de Carabineros, sin embargo fue la PDI, parte del aparato represivo del Estado, quien se hizo presente. No dudamos ni un segundo en hacerles frente. La PDI se ha caracterizado por su carácter opresivo, como lo hemos visto en Wall Mapu, en donde junto a carabineros y el Ejército han militarizado la zona y desarrollado una política contrainsurgente para acabar con la lucha mapuche; hemos sabido también como estos opresores abusan de menores de edad en Valparaíso y se caracterizan por ser reiteradamente corruptos; y muchos sabemos también como la PDI es parte esencial de la cadena del narcotráfico (defendiendo a ciertos narcos, atacando y realizando “mexicanas legales” a su competencia), que tiene a los jóvenes de nuestras poblaciones sumidos en la droga. No creemos en las blancas palomas que nos muestran los programas de televisión.

Con piedras, bombas molotovs y bombas de pinturas, enfrentamos las balas de la Policía de Investigaciones y los obligamos a mantenerse encerrados al interior del cuartel. Anticipo de lo que ocurrirá este 11 de septiembre cuando la juventud combatiente y el resto del pueblo que es explotado y marginado cotidianamente por este sistema, salga a las calles a recuperar sus poblaciones y a demostrar su rabia en contra las desigualdades que genera el capitalismo y de quienes las defienden."

On August 12th the Carabineros (Chilean National Police) shot and killed a 24 year old Mapuche activist, Jaime Mendoza Collío.
¨24 year-old Mapuche community member, José Facundo Mendoza Collío, died this afternoon, after a group of families belonging to the Requén Pillán Community of the Ercilla area, occupied the San Sebastián estate located 12 kilometres west of Collipulli, township of Angol.¨
Repression in Mapuche territories in the central and southern regions of Chile has grown as land occupations by Mapuche spread.
Riots have broken out in Santiago calling for revenge for this Mapuche warrior.

Get Walking: March in Solidarity with Latin America and Against Fascism

On Saturday night a small march left from Tompkins Square Park in NYC's Lower East Side. The was march called in solidarity with indigenous groups fighting the Peruvian government who had been massacred in the Amazon, resistance to the right wing coup in Honduras and the anti fascist demonstration being held in Greensboro North Carolina the same day. From the call:
"There is a war going on that we are involved with daily, for some it is a low intensity conflict that is often difficult to see clearly, for others it is crystal clear. Capitalism is involved in a constant offensive against all of us who dare stand in its way or who try, in vain, to carve out a space autonomous from the dominant order.

Throughout the Americas, and the world, we see this conflict played out. In 2 months alone dozens of indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon have been massacred because they stood in the way of Capital's advances. In Chile our comrades face imprisonment and massive repression as they continue to fight back against the democratic myth that keeps the dictatorial reality running smoothly. We remember, with rage in our hearts, Jaime Mendoza Collio, a 24 year old Mapuche militant, killed by police in a land occupation in Chile 10 days ago. In Central America the wealthy oligarchs have begun their counter offensive against the small gains that the left have made after years of military dictatorship and outright fascism.

Here in the US we see capitalism facing its most serious crisis in our lifetimes. We also see the radical right, fascist groups, and racialists of all stripes attempting to use this moment to their advantage. On Saturday the 29th the National Socialist Movement (American Nazi Party) is holding a gathering in Greensboro, NC where 30 years ago 5 anti-fascists were gunned down by fascists at an anti-KKK rally. Antifa from all over the US will be mobilizing to stop them. We stand in active solidarity with all of our comrades in Latin America, and the world, who are fighting against the state and capital.

We must grasp the totality of the current situation, see that we are living in a period of global civil war and begin to choose sides.

Greece: Anarchists march in solidarity with immigrants

Recently the Greek state has intensified it's attacks on poor immigrants. Anarchists and anti-authoritarians from Greece called for a march in Athens on 7 July 2009 at 7pm, against what they call a "modern apartheid" (refering to the recent attempts by fascists in the Saint Pandeleimonas district, where many immigrants live, to disallow them from entering into communal spaces such as play grounds or parks, but also to the cop operations in central Athens "clearing" the city of unwanted immigrants en masse with no regard for their human rights). There are also alarming government plans for all unwanted immigrants to be arrested and held at concentration camps for years.

The march had about 2500 comrades, and this made the cops to keep themselves at safe distance. During the march various texts were distributed, anarchist graffiti was drawn, security cameras were destroyed, as well as bank ATMs. The march proceeded towards Saint Pandeleimonas and when the head of the march was about to enter the district the cops immediately fired tear gas and shock grenades, with the comrades replying with stones and flare bombs.

Many immigrants were participating in the march and they attacked Delta guards (Deltades) in Victoria Square (Deltades are thugs the state uses as light-cops until real cops arrive). After the march, the Saint Pandeleimonas district was full of immigrants and clear of fascists or cops. The fascists supported the cops in their attempt to drive the march out of Saint Pandeleimonas.
A fascist accidentaly set himself on fire.

A march also took place in Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

Grecia: Anarquistas marchan en solidaridad con inmigrantes

Recientemente el estado Griego ha intensificado sus ataques contra inmigrantes pobres. Anarquistas y antiautoritarios griegos llamaron a una marcha en Atenas el 7 de Julio de 2009, contra lo que llamaron ¨un moderno apartheid¨(refiriendose a los recientes ataques perpetrados por grupos fascistas en el distrito de Saint Pandeleimonas lugar dónde residen numerosos inmigrantes, impidiendo el libre acceso de los inmigrantes a los espacios comunes como plazas, juegos de niños y parques. Y tambén las operaciones policiales en el centro de Atenas para ¨limpiar¨la ciudad de inmigrantes indeseables).
El gobierno también tiene planes de arrestar inmigrantes indesables y retenerlos en campos de concentración por años.

La marcha contó con más de 2,500 compañerxs, lo que hizo que la policía mantuviera su distancia de la manifestación. Durante la marcha varios textos fueron distribuidos, se pintó graffiti anaquista, de destruyeron cámaras de seguridad así como cajeros automáticos bancarios. Cuando la marcha se dirigió a Saint Pandeleimonas y se encontraba a punto de entrar al barrio, la policía arremetió inmediatamente con gas lacrimógeno y granadas de choque, a lo que lxs compañerxs contestaron con piedras y bombas molotov.

Repression and Action: the G8 in Italy/ Represión y Acción en Italia

The G8 is set to meet in L'Aquila (which was recently hit by a massive earthquake) , Italy not far from Rome. This is the first G8 meeting in Italy since 2001 where there was massive rioting, Carlo Guliani was shot and killed by Caribineri and brutal police attacks. 8 years later and italy seems to be moving further fascist. Vigilante groups have been legalized to operate in Italian cities and fascists have been quick to take advantage of this to parade around in Mussolini era garb:

Rome also is home to Casa Pound a Fascist 'social center' in the middle of Rome's Chinatown.

It seems like the turnout for the protests this year under the current climate have been small, though there have been a few actions including a blockade at Rome's central train station where a group of 150 or so masked individuals shut down train traffic.

Solidarity actions have also been held in Berlin. There has been a lot of repression leading up to the G8 with raids against students, 'anarcho autonomous' groups and others accused of 'armed band' taking place across the country.

Iran: What if the insurrection doesn’t end?

The Insurrection in Iran continues. Thousands upon thousands of Iranians continue to take to the street, putting their rage into practice. As politicians on all ends of the political spectrum scramble to take advantage of or control these events the insurrection at this point shows little signs of stopping nor of being recuperated into a specific political demand.

Timeline of events:
On Saturday June 13, after election results announced that Ahmadinejad had won, supporters of Mousavi took to the streets to protest. The next day, protests grew, as did violence. On the night of June 14, the pro-Ahmadinejad Basij paramilitary group raided Tehran University, injuring many.

On June 16, protests continued, and the Guardian Council announced a partial recount would be conducted; however, the vote was not annulled.

On Thursday, June 18, more than 100,000 protesters held a candle-light vigil in Tehran following Mousavi's call for a day of mourning for those killed in protests.
* It is interesting to note that Mousavi was one of the high ranking officials of the regime during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war. He was involved in the death of a million Iranian youth in the war and played a key role in the execution of political prisoners including the massacre of 30,000 prisoners in summer of 1988.

On Friday, June 19, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini spoke during religious services, saying the election was legitimate and protests would no longer be tolerated. Protests occurred on a smaller scale. The next day, June 20, fewer protesters took to streets. At the protests that did occur, said to number in the tens of thousands of people, much violence occurred, causing many would-be protesters to stay in their homes the next day, Sunday, June 21.

On June 20 a young Iranian woman, identified as Neda Agha-Soltan, was shot by the Basij and died in front of cameras on Kargar Avenue in Tehran.

Mauricio Morales Presente!

Early in the Morning of May 22nd in Santiago, Chile, Mauricio Morales, a 27 year old anarchist, was killed when an explosive device he was carrying exploded in his backpack. Word has it that shortly after his death police attempted and carried out raids at various squats and social centers in Santiago. Below is a report from comrades of Mauricio:

"During the early morning of May 22, we lost our beloved comrade Mauricio Morales Duarte. According to the bourgeois press, Mauricio was transporting an explosive device in downtown Santiago. The device exploded unexpectedly, and our comrade died in combat.

Long live comrade Mauricio Morales! Mauricio joins the list of fallen combatants under the democratic regime in Chile. He was a dedicated and militant anarchist. We remember Mauricio as a youth combatant like so many before him.

Reports keep trickling in and we are beginning to see that this mayday was one of the wildest in years! There is a report back from an action in Asheville, North Carolina of an occupation turned street party turned riot:

"On the night of May first a down town building in Asheville North Carolina was occupied for a dance party in honor of May Day

A banner hung from the roof read "Reclaiming space to reclaim our lives. Occupy everything!" and by the time the police arrived there was about 150-200 people doing just that. As pre-determined nobody fought for the space but instead took the party to the street.

Once the police realized their mistake they seized the sound system but it was too late. Masks were on and the chants began. "Wu-tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with!", "May Day is our day. Can't forget peoples history!", "Swine-Flu! Swine-Flu!" and A... Anti...Anti-Capitalista!"

The rowdy party snaked through the city dragging things into the street and throwing shit at stuff we hate (banks, development firms and yes, even those fucking bourgeois-ass "local businesses"). Cry about it liberal.

A late night Mayday action seems to have gone off well in San Francisco. Some of the city's "nicest" stores had their windows smashed, according to mainstream media reports more than 7 stores were smashed while paint was allegedly thrown into stores that were still open. De Beers, Guess, Prada, Longchamps, Macys, Mont-Blanc, and other rich people's store's were apparent victims of this anti capitalist smashing spree.

"A group of about 20 to 30 vandals, dressed in black and wearing masks, committed multiple acts of vandalism just after 11 p.m. last night. The group, which some witnesses described as looking like "ninjas," damaged the windows of several businesses and vehicles near the East Side intersection of Farwell and North Avenues, threw construction barricades into the street and set off smoke bombs in the streets.

Milwaukee Police said that the following businesses reported broken windows:

U.S. Bank, 2303 N. Farwell Ave.
Whole Foods, 2305 N. Prospect Ave.
Qdoba, 2228 N. Prospect Ave.
Bruegger's Bagels, 2045 E. North Ave.

Milwaukee Police are looking into whether this activity was related to a protest earlier in the evening by a group of self-titled "anarchists" in the Riverwest area, department spokesperson Anne E. Schwartz said. There is no one in custody at this time."

There is also a backlash brewing against the new 'Social War' trend in the anarchist milieu. A recent (rather pathetic) critique can be read here.

While critique is necessary and should a positive thing for this developing trend, many of the critiques like the aforementioned one, just serve to make the differences between 'us' (pro revolutionaries) and 'them' (liberals masquerading as radicals) clearer. In "Social War Needs Social Skills" the anonymous author uses ridiculous platitudes and ignorant comparisons, attempting to use tired activist rhetoric, to shame those who dare try a new path into falling into line behind their liberal goals for 'true democracy' and the ubiquitous, mythical and fetishized "community".

Obviously there are valid critiques that could be made about this new trend which is still developing here in the US, but bullshit like 'Social War Needs Social Skills' will likely serve to do nothing else besides make it clear that some of us are definitely not on the same page.

Tomorrow, April 17 we will celebrate the international day of political prisoners, with the aim to generate and ambient of solidarity with all the fighters and revolutionaries around the globe, unveiling all the injustices and estate’s crimes, that in the frame of the actual socio-economic system we all have witnessed.

Today there’s thousands of our comrades retain in the walls of prisons, locked up for defending social justice, others for their militancy on behalf of the Earth and some others for their fight against slavery of non-human animals.

Unstoppable: Protests continue at the New School.

A rally was held today on 13th Street outside one of the New School buildings. Students were speaking out against the police attacks that occurred Friday and Saturday of last week, and continuing the call for President Bob Kerrey to resign. The Students and their supporters took to the streets once again in an unpermitted march and went (once again) to Bob Kerrey's house.

Afterwards the march wound its way to 65 5th avenue site of Friday's occupation with protesters chanting "from NY to Greece Fuck the Police". A confrontation began after police began to force people out of the street. 3 protesters were arrested but released a few hours later with summonses. The crowd then marched over towards NYU where students there were encouraged to "Occupy Everything".

A solidarity message was received by the New School rebels from the insurgent students of La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy.

A wild student occupation at the new school complete with balaclava-ed occupiers, police state tactics, and a mini-riot.

Friday night:
Solidarity march leaves Union Square throwing barricades in the street, and heads for scum bag New School president Bob Kerrey's house. March makes it to site of occupation, 65 5th Avenue, arrests and clashes ensue, more barricades in the street.

Saturday a.m.:
The 3rd annual NYC Anarchist Book fair sets up shop selling anarchist commodities of all shapes and sizes workshops and other events are held as well.

Saturday night:
Following the Bookfair a gathering called "Catastrophe" takes place, meeting once again in Union Square. The cats move into the subway where a brief scuffle happens as police attempt to arrest a party goer who is unarrested and escapes. The cats exit the train at 1st ave and 14th street where chaos ensues and the party somehow becomes a bizarre march/ happening that confuses many including police. Windows of Mcdonalds, Washington Mutual, and Whole Foods are reportedly smashed as the unruly and scattered mob winds its way around the east village and moves towards the New School, which is quickly surrounded by police.

Reportedly there where 30 arrests made in these various events, and two police were apparently injured.

And the warm weather isn't even here yet!!!!

New School Re-Occupied , and then evicted by massive police operation

The New School building that was occupied in December by students was reoccupied, this time in its entirety, in the early morning of April 10th. A banner reading "Occupy" and a red and black flag were hung from the roof. By 11am a massive police operation involving, a helicopter, hundreds of police, emergency service and Fire Department units shut down a big chunk of the neighborhood. A clash broke out on 14th street and 5th ave as people outside attempted to help students escape from the building which police had begun to raid. Police attacked demonstrators arresting several. A police car was allegedly attacked as supporter purportedly threw metal barricades at baton wielding police. Shortly after the building was stormed by police wearing full riot gear. 19 occupiers are reported to have been arrested.

Later in the night a rally to protest the police eviction of New School students from 65 5th avenue and the brutality handed out by the NYPD was held in Union Square. An impromptu march was held taking up all 4 lanes of traffic on 14th street, barricades were thrown into the street as police began to follow. Eventually the rowdy crowd made its way to 21 West 11th street, the residence of New School president Bob Kerrey. Police moved in with metal barricades and after taunting Kerrey for a while the protest moved back towards 6th ave and then up towards 65 5th avenue. More barricades were thrown into the street and a group of three undercover officers made arrests. There was at least one unarrest made before police cruisers started swarming from all over. The march made it back to union square where it dispersed. There are unconfirmed reports of 4 arrests being made.

Students have also begun to play a large role in the current conflicts. In Italy a movement known as "the Wave" is mobilzing students and meeting repression from the government and neo-fascist groups.

The beginning of April will bring the meeting of the G20 in London with anticapitalists planning on shutting down the city.

A call entitled "You Should Feel What I Feel..." has been released from a group from NYC daring others to step up their game and to engage in a 'competitive occupation tournament' whose goal seems to be creating occupations, turning the crisis into conflict against the status quo, and the end of capitalist social relations.

Friend and comrade Tristan Anderson Critically Injured in Demonstration Against Israeli Wall

On March 13th, 2009, Tristan Anderson, from Oakland, California was critically wounded in the village of Ni'lin after Israeli forces shot him in the head with a high-powered tear-gas canister. Tristan is a dedicated anarchist, friend, activist and reporter who has long been committed to social and environmental justice in the U.S. and abroad in places such as México, Iraq, and Palestine.

As a result of his injuries, Tristan Anderson, has been taken to Israeli hospital Tel Hashomer, near Tel Aviv. Anderson was unconscious and had been bleeding heavily from the nose and mouth. He sustained a serious injury to his forehead where he was struck by the canister. He was operated on the same day.

Tristan was in very critical condition but is recovering slowly, he has moved his fingers in response to a request from a doctor. If you want to read an update written by his family click here.

Police had expressed fears of violence at this annual event, partly because this was the first anti police brutality march since the cops gunned down 18 year old Fredy Villanueva in August 2008. That shooting sparked massive rioting as well.

Protest marches in response to the fascist-parastate handgrenade attack against the Immigrants’ Social Centre in Athens erupt in riots seeing neonazi national offices burned.

Riots broke out twice during the last week, both times in during protest marches against the fascist-parastate attack against the Immigrants’ Social Center in Exarcheia with a hand-grenade on the 24th of February.

During the first march two days after the attack, anarchist protesters detached themselves from the main body of the demo to attack the HQs of Apogevmatini, an ultra-conservative daily making consistent attacks on social and labour movements, whose editor in chief, Momferatos, had been executed by N17 guerrillas in the mid 80s, for his cooperation with the CIA during and after the colonels’ junta.

The much larger protest march that took to the streets of Athens on Thursday 4/3 erupted in extended street battles between protesters and provocative riot police forces attacked the demo. During the clashes that spread throughout the city centre several banks and expensive shops were destroyed, while protesters broke into the offices of Golden Dawn [Xrysi Avgi] the neonazi parastate organisation responsible for numerous assassination attempts against immigrants, anarchists and the left, as well as a campaign of terror against radical infrastructures. The offices were torched to the ground.

The murder of Oscar Grant by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer Johannes Mehserle early New Year's morning sent a wave of grief throughout the Bay Area and reminded all that racism and police violence continue to be endemic components of US society. During the following days, that pain transformed into overflowing anger as multiple videos of the execution recorded by witnesses emerged on the internet and in the media. One week later on January 7, over a thousand people from diverse communities across Oakland and the Bay Area gathered to show their anger and be in the presence of others feeling similar grief. This hastily planned rally shut down the Fruitvale BART station where the shooting took place as speaker after speaker addressed the crowd. Without any plan or organization, the vast majority of those who patiently listened to speakers for over two hours took the demonstration into the streets with a spirited march that made its way towards downtown as the sun set.

As the march reached the Lake Merritt BART station and headquarters of BART police downtown, clashes immediately broke out leaving one police cruiser destroyed alongside a burning dumpster. Marchers dispersed down side streets to the sounds of police weapons discharging and the sting of tear gas in the air. The following hours witnessed waves of rioting and demonstrations throughout downtown Oakland that even forced Mayor Ron Dellums to come out into the streets and promise the opening of a homicide investigation in a failed attempt to subdue the angry crowds. Hundreds of businesses and cars were damaged or destroyed and dumpsters were left burning. The next day, a BART board of directors meeting was filled beyond capacity and overwhelmed with community members expressing indignant rage, clearly feeling validated and empowered to speak up by the previous night's rebellion.

In the follow up to the rioting in Oakland after the murder of Oscar Grant there has been some hand wringing from those who wished to contain the protests for their own gain. Petaluma Cop Watch published this extremely disappointing letter.

Yesterday a letter was released which addresses these reactions to the rage that took place the night of the 7th:

Dear Oakland,
The night of January 7th we were with you, you were with me, when we saw a glimpse of the future: we smiled and embraced as we lit fires, stomped in windows, destroying real estate, both big and small business as usual. We shared tips on makeshift face masks, we rested together on the sidewalk to catch a breath, we reminded ourselves to "stay calm! don't run!" when the cops gassed us or when they did their sorry shuffle: charging a little, pushing a little, running a little. We disbanded and came back together time and time again and realized we could make the city into anything we wanted.

We flew through the night, always outrunning the twin monstrosity of police and liberal politics-- both who call for passivity-- staying close to familiar faces, but always defending a stranger. Here we write this letter even while we know that where our words so often fail, only our fires emerge victorious. But let this letter be a word of encouragement. Let this letter be comfort in the courtroom when you stare up back at the judge, when they call you a criminal. We do not silently watch as they disappear us into their prison dungeons, their service industries, or when they feel free to wave guns at us and shoot us. Let this word be with you.

The early morning of January 1st was no accident, just as the fire lit night of January 7th was no accident. There are those who left early on the 7th who decry destruction and only want the specificity, the precision of a planned action with a planned target. They don't know that our plan was to rebuild our humanity and that the target was the city. They expose us to their legitimacy litmus. They are afraid of our wild ambitions, they have a smug disdain for our free humanity, they are torn between their boring critiques of capitalism and how they don't want to think we're mongrels-- but in their hearts, they do. We see them all the time: little conquistador Napoleons who want to mastermind a charge and lead a loud megaphone chant. Don't let them guilt or shame you-- if it helps, let this word be with you.

They do not know that our power does not have to look like neighborhoods of small businesses that cater to the middle road, businesses that employ us to work unending hours for them, all the while suspecting of us one perversion or another. Not now, or not ever, but especially not now when we live in a world where no one bats an eye when they kill us, imprison us, humiliate us each day. There is no human rights delegation to our daily lives-- there are only capitalist gate keeper service agencies and liberals who think they know what's good for everyone. No flashy car, no Obama/Biden bumper sticker, no "mom and pop" can prevent us or sell us the betrayal of our own experiences. We don't grieve for a car window, or a nail salon, or liquor store, just as we don't grieve for a McDonalds or a bank. We grieve that we are choked each day and we celebrate that just past the tear gas we finally caught a breath of reality. We finally found humanity, together.

It's cause to walk with a lighter step this week, to burn this memory into our histories, to remake our dreams for the future. We are reminded of what's possible: to be tender and patient with one another, and save our rage and distrust for those who destroy us. A heartfelt congratulations to you.

Riots erupt in Oakland after funeral of Oscar Grant

In the early hours of January 1st, Bay Area Metro Transit (BART) police shot and killed a 22 year old man, Oscar Grant, on the platform of the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland. Grant was being held on the ground by two officers and was not struggling as another cop, Officer Johannes Mehserle, took out his gun and shot Grant in the back fatally wounding him. All of this took place in front of a crowd of people some of whom filmed the murder with cell phone cameras.

On January 7th Grant's funeral, as well as protests took place. A march leaving from the metro station where Grant was murdered made its way to downtown Oakland where the crowds fury was unleashed. Dumpsters were set on fire and a police cruiser was attacked, police counter attacked and over the course of the night cars were set on fire, businesses were attacked, and over 100 arrests were made.

From Athens to Avenue A: A group of 40-50 individuals assembled shortly after 9pm in Tompkins Square Park in Manhattan's Lower East Side last night. Carrying banners they took to the streets marching north on Avenue A., the site of the well known tompkins square park riots of 1989. The group began chanting anti police slogans, as well as anti-capitalist chants. Fliers were handed out talking about the Greek revolt as well as problems here like police brutality, the economic crisis and gentrification. read more....

"New School for Social Revolution"

The New School building at 65 5th ave had been occupied by students on Wednesday night. On thursday morning they expanded their occupation after repelling an attack by the NYPD. One member of APOC NYC was arrested in these scuffles, but was released later that night.At night hundreds of supporters lined the streets in front of the building, chanting in support. The crowed swelled and spilling out onto 5th avenue. As the NYPD brought in metal protest pens in an attempt to control the growing crowds, a shoving match broke out and people poured onto 5th avenue blocking the street completely. Trash and newspaper boxes were thrown into the street with the crowd chanting "From New York to Greece, Fuck the Police!"

Greece: Mass Student March Gassed/ NYC: Police Attack Student Occupation

A student march of over 7,000 people took over central Athens. Police shot tear gas and concussion grenades directly into the crowd. The March ended in clashes and property destruction.A 16 year old student was shot in the hand before the marches began in Athens possibly by fascists. Occupations of media outlets have also reportedly spread in Greece.

At noon today in NYC Police attacked students and supporters at the New School University which has been occupied since last night. The students spread the occupation and were letting more occupiers into the building when the NYPD showed up attacked students and entered the school. One person was arrested but students were able to repel the police, barricading themselves inside the school. Word from the inside is that there are now many more students occupying and they are going strong!

A portion of The New School in New York City was occupied around 8pm tonight. Students at the school have a long list of grievances with their school's administration. In a communique released shortly after the occupation took place the students inside expressed solidarity with the revolt in Greece as well as the student struggles in Italy, France, and Spain.

They go on to state:
"...what begins tonight at the New School cannot, and should not, be contained here.
Thus: with this occupation, we inaugurate a wave of occupations in New York City and the United States, a coming wave of occupations, blockades, and strikes in this time of crisis.

Union Offices Occupied, Anarchists take action against the circle of “production-circulation-consumption”

The Liberated City Hall of Aghios Dimitrios which has been occupied since the morning of December 11th, has released a statement calling for the release of all those arrested in the uprising. The ' liberated' city hall holds daily assemblies with 300 people participating, and calls itself 'a space for counter information and self organization'.

Meanwhile young protesters momentarily seized the state run TV turning off a speech by the Prime Minister and turning cameras on their banners which read: "Stop watching, get out onto the streets," and "Free everyone who has been arrested." In Thessaloniki people forced radio stations to broadcast messages on air.

NYC: Solidarity with Alexis and the Greek Rioters

About 30 New Yorkers rallied in front of the Greek consulate yesterday to show their solidarity with Alexis , and the rioters throughout Greece. There was a large police presence, including a mobile command center, Undercover Officers and TARU (surveillance) officers. The protesters chanted "Cops Pigs Murders!" in Greek and English, as well as "Fire and flames to the state, their repression fuels our hate!" before dispersing.

The Consulate was shut down due to a early morning attack also in solidarity with Alexis. The windows of the consulate were smashed and the message "Alexi was here" and Anarchy symbols left on the walls. The incompetent NYPD theorize that this act was committed by the infamous "bicycle bomber" despite the fact that the M.O. was rather different, a brick was used and spray painted messages were left.

El sábado 6 de diciembre, alrededor de las 10pm, dos policías griegos que se encontraban en una patrulla en el barrio de Exarchia (barrio radical y anarquista) en el centro de Atenas, tuvieron un enfrentamiento verbal con algunxs jóvenes del barrio, durante el enfrentamiento, uno de los policías dispararó dos veces a un chico de 16 años. La víctima fué trasladada al Hospital Evangelismos pero ya se encontraba muerta.

En una respuesta espontánea, miles de personas se congregaron en el centro de las principales ciudades griegas. En Atenas, la gente se congregó afuera del hospital Evangelismos para evitar que la policía entrara al mismo. Poco después las policía arremetió contra los manifestantes en las calles de Exarchia arrestando a una persona. La noche en Atenas se convirtió en una asamblea espontánea en la Universidad Politécnica, dónde se tomaron tres edificios, disturbios en el centro de la ciudad, incluyendo ataques contra el departamento de policía, tiendas y bancos. Los disturbios duraron hasta el amanecer. La policía enfrentó a los manifestantes con gas lacrimógeno.

Marchas, manifestaciones, acciones directas y disturbios tomaron lugar al rededor de todo el país. Los medios masivos de comunicación en Grecia reportaron que dos ministros del Interior ofrecieron dejar su cargo pero esto no fué aceptado por el Primer ministro. Los dos policías ya fueron detenidos y acusados por asesinato, aunque ellos insisten que la bala fué disparada al aire para alejar a los jóvenes.

On Saturday 6th of December at around 10pm, two Greek policemen were in patrol in a central street by Exarchia square, in the center of Athens. They had a verbal argument with some young people who were there. During the argument, one of the cops pulled his gun and shot a 16-year-old twice. The victim was moved to Evangelismos Hospital to be found dead.

In a spontaneous response, thousands of people gathered in the centers of most of Greek cities. In Athens, people gathered outside Evangelismos Hospital, in order to prevent the cops from entering the building. A little later the riot police attacked in a street in Exarchia resulting to one person being arrested. The evening in Athens evolved with a spontaneous assembly in the Polytechnic University, a lot of riots in the whole center of Athens, including attacks against police departments and banks, until the early hours of the next morning. Meanwhile, a spontaneous demonstration took place, but it was confronted by the riot police with tear gas. Three University buildings have been occupied.

Rallies, demonstrations, direct actions and riots took place all around the country. In Thessaloniki, a big spontaneous demonstration took place, while 2 Police Departments were attacked, several bank departments were burnt and Egnatia str., the main street, was blocked by burning trash bins for hours. Reports have been also posted about actions in Yannena, Iraklio, Chania, Komotini, Mitilini, Xanthi, Serres, Sparta, Alexandroupolis and Volos.

Demonstrations in all cities of Greece have been announced for tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1pm.

According to the mainstream media, two Ministers offered their resignation, but it was not accepted by the Prime Minister. The two policemen have already been detained and accused for murder, while they insist that the bullet was shot on the air to keep the young men away, but it was reverted by a metal label towards the stomach of the victim.

Argentina: Train tracks blocked for Freddy and Marcelo

Freddy Fuentevilla and Marcelo Villaroel are long time chilean 'militants'. Marcelo was a political prisoner at the age of 19. In prison Marcelo became a member of the group 'Kamina Libre' a revolutionary anti authoritarian group made up of ex-marxist leninist political prisoners. Upon his release he became involved with revolutionary projects again and started the political punk band D*Linkr.

In mid march Freddy and Marcelo were arrested in Junin, Argentina. They are being accused of participating in a bank robbery in Chile where a police officer was killed. These charges are based largely on Freddy and Marcelo's past history in armed struggle groups and little to do with the actual situation. Since 17th of November they have been on hunger strike. The following action in Argentina is the most recent action in solidarity with the prisoners.

Buenos Aires - In the framework of the hunger strike that has been realized by Freddy Fuentevilla and Marcelo Villaroel this passed November 26, 2008, anarchist companions in solidarity blocked the tracks that join with Villa Rosa (Belgrano line) in the proximity of the Villa de Mayo station. The companions set a fire on the tracks at the same time as hanging a banner with the words "FREEDOM TO FREDDY AND MARCELO, NO TO THE EXTRADITION (A)".

The intention of this action was not to make a demand of the State because we know that whatever name it has (chilean, argentine, etc) it's the State that's responsible for persecuting and attacking persons who are intent on changing the established order.

The intention is to spread an idea of conscious and active solidarity as the most powerful weapon we have.

We shouldn't expect anybody to call us to demonstrate or take action in some pre-determined form but we have to be coherent with our ideas and act in the moments and locations we believe appropriate .

Corte de vías por Freddy y Marcelo

Buenos Aires.- En el marco de la huelga de hambre que estan realizando freddy fuentevilla y marcelo villaroel, el pasado 26/11 compañeros anarquistas se solidarizaron provocando el corte de las vias que unen retiro con villa rosa (linea belgrano), en las proximidades de la estacion VILLA DE MAYO. La accion se produjo cuando los compañeros generaron un incendio sobre la via, al mismo tiempo que colgaban una bandera con la consigna “LIBERTAD A FREDDY Y MARCELO, NO A LA EXPULSION (A)”.

La intencion de esta accion no es la de hacerle un pedido al estado porque sabemos que sea cual sea el nombre que este tenga (chileno, argentino, etc) es responsable de la persecucion y del ataque a las personas q intentan cambiar el orden establecido.

La intencion es difundir la idea de que la solidaridad conciente y activa es el arma mas poderosa que tenemos.

Anarchists and Autonomists Arrested in French "Anti-Terror" sweep

Early on the morning of November 11th French anti terror police raided houses in 3 french towns arresting 20 individuals for the sabotage of high speed rail lines in France. The arrested are alleged by authorities to be part of an "anarchist-autonomous gang" responsible for "violent rhetoric" and rioting. One of the towns raided was the town of Tarnac which in recent years had become a sort of "libertarian" community made up of young anarchists and autonomists from all over France. According to Le Monde one of the arrested is supposed to have been one of the authors of an influential piece called "The Insurrection to Come".

Although the press gives varying numbers it is believed that 8-10 of the individuals caught up in these raids are still being held and will face terror charges.

Indigenous Groups in Mass March to Cali, Colombia

Radical Indigenous groups from the southern Colombian region of Cauca have been protesting since October 12th of this year against the Uribe Government's continued attacks upon them and against neo liberal economic programs that have put their homes in jeopardy as multi nationals move in to exploit the region. Thousands of marchers are making their way to the large Colombian city of Cali blocking the Pan American Highway as they go. Other indigenous and campesinos have been spontaneously joining the march and clashing with poice.

Two demonstrators have been shot and killed by the ESMAD (riot police), President Uribe originally denied these reports until videos of ESMAD firing M-16s at protesters surfaced and he was forced to admit he lied. Protesters have also captured infiltrators and given them 'indigenous justice'

On October 10th, the Jericho Movement and the NYC Anarchist Black Cross Federation among others organized a rally at the United Nations which was followed by an illegal march through the streets of midtown Manhattan. This event brought together Black Nationalists, Puerto Rico Independistas, Anarchists, Animal Liberationists, and others with the common goal of bringing attention to the plight of political prisoners held in the U.S.

10 years ago on September 11th, Claudia Lopez a woman, student and anarchist dancer was killed by the police during a protest commemorating the coup of 1973. Under the slogan of Black September the youth combatants fight in her name, and in the name of all those killed under democracy, against the bastards who killed them, making sure that the world remembers that we are living in a war.
